FIELD EXTENSION OFFICERS- 20 positions

12 month contract

We are currently seeking suitable, qualified, experienced and highly motivated people to be based in different offices in Madang, East New Britain, Oro Province,East Highland Province, Papua New Guinea. These positions will primarily be based training in the field. Knowledge of the area and of a language of the region would therefore be an advantage. The team will be expected to sleep and work with communities which invloves remote travel (on foot or by landcrusier to rural areas to work with farmers) at least 3 out of 4 weeks.

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The purpose of this position is to provide training  to rural farmers to improve quality, consistancy and production of vanilla crops. The field extension team are entrusted to ensure the quality of material delivered, attain high standards in the field of processing, planting, pruning, permiculture, and land-management while promoting intermixed cropping and climate aware planting while not increasing footprint. Improving sanitation and COVID-19 training will be an integral part of the training as will banking and financial literacy. Staff will collect data, report and monitor that data in effective and efficent ways.

MAJOR ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Field staff will be responsible but not limited to the following:

 

  • After a training period have a clear capacity to train others in an ethical manner according to the operational guidelines

  • Database and report

  • Work under pressure and the discipline to work with minimum supervision and to strict deadlines.

  • Ensure all buildings/vehicles/property are kept clean and secure at all times

  • Ensure handwashing and personal hygiene regimes are adhered to.

  • Coordinate and consult Technical Experts to ensure the smooth running of the project.

  • Keep track of material usage and waste

  • Maintain quality throughout the process

  • Liase effectively with partners and stakeholders

  • Learn to use agricultural technology to record field events and register farmers

  • Learn to become a banking agent and digicel agent

  • Be able be responsible with accounting and to acquit funds 

  • Have strong analytical skills to be able to make use of information for recommendations

  • Submit weekly, monthly, quarterly reports on timely basis as required

  • Working in a collaborative manner with the other field workers.

  • Be physically fit and able to walk distances.

  • Live and work rurally with communities we are working with.

 

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree ideally in Business, Agriculture, or Community Development.

  • Grade point average above 2.7

  • At least 1-3 years of professional experience in field work.

  • Experience in databasing, monitoring, evaluation and report writing.

  • Computer literate. Proficiency in MS Office especially Excel.

  • A team player with strong leadership skills, networking & negotiation and problem-solving skills.

  • Additional experience in capacity building, training and working in field teams.

  • Proven ability to adapt and perform well in high-pressure and dynamic work environments and situations.

  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English and Tok Pisin is required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills required, experience working in cross-cultural teams

  • Class 6 driving license desirable

  • Red Cross First Aid certificate desirable
